Do you get the same error after rebooting?

I remember seeing this a couple times years ago. In both instances it was due to some program that was running in the background at the time cleanmgr was run.

So, try shutting down everything that's running. Disconnect from the internet and shut down antivirus, firewall and whatever else might be running. Ctrl+alt+delete and shut down everything but explorer and systray. Then try it. You might also try running it in safemode and see what happens there.

If it does run, you may be able to figure out which program is causing it by shutting down one program at a time and then trying to run cleanmgr.

re clean mgr caused an invalid pg fault in module kernel32.dll

hi all, thanks so much for all the remedies. i will try rebooting to see if it stops. the funny thing is it does clean fine but when its all done then i get the stupid message that its performing an illegal operation. i always clean it when im not on the internet and nothing else is running except i have spybot and adaware on the computer and i dont know if either one comes with a firewall. i will try using one of the cleaners mentioned to see if it will go around that stupid message. i had to laugh when i read the quote about fix it if it aint broke and then fix it anyway and really mess it up. that sounds like me. :)

    Hi all

I would run all of the cleanups. No one cleaner gets them all. Usually what one misses the other will get.

It may not in fact have really finished as you think.

You did not mention if running in SAFE Mode works OK.

Do you know about Safe mode?

If you want to fix this do all the steps and get back.

The problem may seem a nuisance but in fact may be covering a more serious problem.

As when you go to the doctor, Hygiene is first. CLEANUP!
