Somehow I cannot figure it. Running on XP Pro and everything set to Classic view.
When I try to save a pic from the Internet it opens My Pictures folder in the Thumbnails mode?
When I try to d/l and save a file it opens in the List mode?
I only want to view in Details mode. Have tried various settings inside Folder Options but no luck.
What am I missing here? Any suggestions most welcome.

    Hi willem07,

I'm just doing a post drop in to add a "link and go ". I am googling another problem and happened upon this post which looks like it thoroughly covers "folder view" settings and making them stick. I remembered your post and thought you might find this useful. You may wish to give it look it over and give it shot. Please let me know if your fix is found in the info provided.

    I hope it helps. :)

Your "my pictures" folder and downloading into this may require additional advice but as I said I am busy with another post and am only doing a drive by. Perhaps when I am sure you haven't given up on a response to this post and will be back to it, this part of your issue can be addressed. Bye... :0

    Hi goddez1,

Well, amazing the time you spent in assisting, for that alone you deserve a 11 out of 10. Giving each step meticulously to get to the correct keys in the Registry.

I did go through all yr steps just to ensure I've not missed it before during all my past efforts:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.Folder = EditFlags not present
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer = NoSaveSettings not present
Windows Task Manager, Processes = only one explorer.exe present

Actually this issue has been on my puter for some months and I only started this thread because the aggravation level grew too high :)

Since 3 days ago I've been googling seriously and it seems that what I'm requesting cannot be done by XP, it is a no-no option. Something about Pane default settings.
Explorer is opening correctly as to my settings selected via Folder Options but it is the loading and saving panel which are settings in comdig32.dll.
Now I'm talking with hind site which is always easy.
After I tested a prog named File-Ex I wondered how someone could achieve this but their is no Registry hack freely available. By chance and lots of googling I discovered FileOpenPatcher.
It makes a back-up of comdig32.dll and replaces it with a "cracked" version. It solved my problem 100%.

Once again thank you for yr effort and input, highly appreciated.

    Hi again willem07,

I really appreciate you for updating this post with a fix for "save and save as" dialogue box view. I didn't read carefully enough to fully understand that it was this specific dialogue box that was driving you crazy. I'm sure members may find your solution great. Again, Thank you for sharing it.

As for the writeup provided in my previous thread, that was the work of another person named, "arcadesdude-ga ". Understanding the work that went into this, I have no wish to take credit for that hard work so I want to make sure I extend a humble thank you to him or her, where ever they are.

As for myself you are most welcome. I am happy to see you found your fix. :)

    --------For the Archives---------------------------
    Some have tried this:
Open a common dialog box, change the view to the one you want, and then
    > hit Ctrl/Cancel. But have found it doesn't stick. Why? See below...
