This was mentioned in another thread...got me wondering...

I have a huge screensaver file of pics- just pics that capture my attention and roll around for my entertainment. (umm, I admit, a couple of PeteC's pics are in there!) I do not sell, give away, profit from, or otherwise use these pics for anything other than my own personal enjoyment, and for anyone who wanders into my office, before I throw them out. They are pics from emails, web sites, my own camera, etc...family, art, landscapes, people, historical events...if it catches my eye, I save it and throw it in this huge folder for "My Pictures Slideshow" screensaver in XP.

Okay, now you know what I am doing- nothing nefarious or illegal. But some web sites now have the right click save as function disabled. I don't mind when the artist inserts a banner over an image- for one, it helps me remember who they are, and if it annoys me, Photoshop will omit it, but some sites will simply not let me save a pic, period- and some even have snotty little pop up messages "You are not allowed to save pics from our site ".

If I can download it onto my screen, I should be able to capture it. Someone tell me how to get around this in IE6 so that I can save any pic I want. My current workaround is to print the page to a pdf, then extract the pic, which is a pain, and I only bother if the pic is really really special.

Also, I have a friend who makes cards and sells them on her website. How can she turn that "no right click" on? So, I want to know how to defeat the function, and how to install it, both. LOL
    TIA,
    Johanna

Hi Johanna. What does your friend use to create her web site? If she's coding it herself she'll need to write a code to prevent sharing. If she uses FrontPage she can disable sharing in it.

Sorry I can't help with a work around for hacking the code though.

All I can do is suggest a couple of possible work arounds to use to grab the pics. You could take a screen shot and then just crop out the pic you want. Another possibility would be to enable the image toolbar in IE (if it's not already) and see if you can use it to save the pics. I've found that when the right click menu is disabled, the image toolbar will often work just fine to save the pic. To enable it, click tools>internet options>advanced. Scroll to the multimedia section and you'll find it there.

One other possibility would be to look for it in your tifs. This could be tough though if you don't know the name of the file and there's a lot of tifs in there. To make it easier, when you find a pic you like you could close IE and delete your tifs, then go back to the page. Then open the tif folder in thumbnail view and see if you can find it. Shouldn't be to tough if you delete the tifs first and then open the site before visiting any others.

Perhaps a right click|View Source would show the coding?
Just guessing that it is Javascript.

    Johanna...

Go to the page were the full size pic resides on...then click on "File" then "Save As ". This will save the whole page to a folder of your choosing. Open the folder and move the pic you want then delete the rest.

As far a your friend turning on "no right-click" she just needs to add a Javascript code to her site. Try this one http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex9/noright.htm

    Johanna,
What I do is set my Browser to Full Screen then from the Keyboard hit Print Screen then to my Photo Editor select Edit, then select Paste as a New Image. Seems to work for me.

In your address bar, type... view-source: ... before http and hit enter. The exact URL of any pictures will be listed after the <img src=" tags.

For pages using things like asp, php?, etc. use windows explorer to delete the temporary internet files, then reload the page. The pictures will be a lot easier to find and save to a different folder.

The source of a web page often provides a good laugh. About half of the authors who are so concerned about protecting their "original work " copied the no right click script from barts1000@aol.com.
