Can anyone explain to me, why, when I open Chrome browser and then check in task manager, I find 4 chrome.exe processes listed? Shouldn't there be just one copy?

Each process uses different sizes of memory which do somewhat vary in size but mostly increasing/decreasing in small amounts. .

Initially 20k, 23k, 31k and 17 k. Lots of I/O read/writes, even when I am not actively using the browser but have it loaded.

I have the browser open with 2 web site tabs.

    Thank You

I would imagine that Chrome acts in a similar manner to Internet Explorer - what I see is ....

IE open, 1 tab - 2 instances of iexplore.exe running

With each new tab opened another instance of iexplore.exe is running.

This is no doubt 'by design' :)

Chrome loads several instances of itself, each instance is assigned to a specific task. To see exactly what they are, while in Chrome, go to:
Wrench icon > Tools > Task manager.
