Can anyone tell me how to stop chkdsk running on EVERY boot?

I have XP home with NTFS and have confirmed that there is nothing wrong with my HD. Is there a flag in the registry that can be reset?

A big thank-you in advance for anyone who can save me from my misery.

Are you using a Hewlett-Packard scanner? If so, update the driver.

As always, it doesn't hurt to try simpler repair options, even if they are not likely to help. They may help and save you time. Try running chkdsk from the Recovery Console and have it repair your drive.

If that doesn't help, then you have a damaged registry, particularly if your installation of XP was an upgrade and not a "clean" installation.

The registry can be repaired by System Restore if you have a saved point from before the occurrence of the problem.

If you have no restore point, then more drastic measures may be required:
