I tried to run chkdsk /f and the box said it would run the next time I rebooted and if I wanted to do this (Y/N)...I typed in Y and the dash kept flashing after the Y that I typed in. But when I try to close it, it won't close. It tells me that Windows has to complete something or I can end the program. I have tried 10 times and the same thing happens. Windows has not completed whatever it is supposed to be completing after 20 minutes and I always have to exit the program.
What am I doing wrong, and how can I get chkdsk /f to run? (I do leave a space before /f)

Go to your HD manufacturer site, and download free diagnostic tool. It's always better, then CHKDSK.

I have no idea what that is...
I want to know why chkdsk /f won't work...that is what I want to use. I need to know what I am doing wrong! I don't want some thing that I have to try to find somewhere on some website that I have no idea where to find.
Thanks for your suggestion but it does not explain why I can't get chkdsk /f to work...

Did you press ENTER after typing the "Y" character?

Don't be too hard on yourself. We've all done things like that at some time or another.

    All the best! :)
