    Hi all,

With my W7, I have the game Chess Titans. I'm trying to learn chess and so far the only thing I know for certain is that the horsie isn't called a "road apple generator ". :D

Anyway, I really like the graphics, etc., and since I dual boot, I'd like to know how to get it to run with XP. When I click on the .exe, I get a "Not A Valid Win32 App" error.

I copied everything relating to chess from W7 (I even DL'ed Vista.Emulator.dll to the sys32 folder); installed DirectX 10 for XP, but all to no avail.

How can I get Chess Titans to work on my XP OS?

    Hi Pete,

Googling is the first thing I did. And, I've posted on several of those links and haven't received a reply yet.

AFAIK this game was developed only for Visa & now Windows 7.

There are many chess games for XP you can download.

    Hi Just Plain.

If you really want to learn chess PM me and we can play online. If you're only interested in the graphics though then listen to Arie.

By the way the "horsie "'s a Knight ;)

    @ Arie,

I've looked at dozens and dozens of chess games and downloaded quite a few also, but the main problem I have with them is that the graphics kinda look like a DOS redux. While the W7 eye candy is really useless to me, I like it in my games. The only one that was halfway decent was Shagg Chess, but, I'm less than a beginner and I can't find a way to set the difficulty level to "for dummies." A strip poker game I DL'ed has great graphics, but I digress.

    @ wildfire,

Would there be a way for us to communicate while we played? I really am a beginner and I fear that after a few games of me "just not getting it ", you'd be tempted to buy a plane ticket just to come over here and slap me upside the head! :p

Sure, no problem and if I get that annoyed I'll ask one of my friends in California to slap you across the head ;). Give me a couple of days (I'm messing with my network right now) and I'll PM you. I'm not a grandmaster or anything but I do enjoy the game and it's been a few years since I played.

Chess Titans cheats anyway on Vista! If you don't checkmate quick enough it calls the game a draw.

I agree, it was even a contributing factor to why I actually bought Home Premium (even if it does cheat).

    Hi all,

I found a link to a site that offers the closest thing to Chess Titans you'll ever get outside Vista and W7, including graphics, moves, view, etc., etc., for WinXP. I've been playing it (and still losing) for about 2 weeks now and it's great. It's called "Chess Giants ".

    http://pmbaty.chez.com/chess/index.html

    Please Note:

    1) The game requires Microsoft .NET Framework v3.5 SP1. The .NET file is 232MB, so I'd suggest using the Bootstrapper version which is only 2.8MBs. It'll update whatever you have now. Read the whole page, though.

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...2F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7&displaylang=en

    2) The game is "donate ware ", meaning you can "donate" any amount and download the game. However, please keep in mind that most game sites charge anywhere from $15 to $30, so donate what your conscience will bear. Also, the $ are converted to €. And, if you're leery about using a CC, you can PayPal it.

    3) The game is about 11MB and the download is from France. The max DL speed you'll get is about 65kbps so it'll take a few three minutes to DL.

At least visit the site and check out the screen shots to see what I mean.

I have just beaten Chess Titans for the 150th time! (I'm not saying how many times it's beaten me...;))

Hah! That's nothing! I've won twice in 100 games! Once by sheer-blind-luck and once with "suggested" moves.

    Top that!

(I'm still not sure what the road apple generator is supposed to do, though)

Knight's Move. It's an unusual move in chess because even when surrounded it can move (it can jump over pieces) and when it does It's not horizontal, vertical or diagonal but a mix of the three. Beginners are often caught out with a Knight's fork even though they'd spot a Rook or Bishop's fork a mile away ;)

Oh thank you too much for the link. On the site it shows the White Knight as being only able to move a couple places but the Black Knight can move anywhere (within the 3 squares, anyway) and if I'm playing White, I'm s*****d.
Uh, didn't you misspell that?

I told you it cheated!

I'm guessing it isn't part of the Giuoco Piano opening?
