How can you open VLC player only with list showing of on Hard drive? At present it opens the last video viewed.

Not a regular VLC user but I had a dig around - this may work for you Apparently VLC cannot access external drives directly although if the external drive is opened in File Explorer double clicking on a .flv file initiates playback (or mp4 if VLC is the default) - this is probably the simplest way of achieving your goal.

There is another way, but it relies on the video files being stored on the C:\ drive - This PC > Videos > Recorded Videos. Files stored here can be accessed in VLC through the menu in the left hand pane under My Computer > My Videos > Recorded videos. I guess this is not what you want as it would eat up GB's on your C:\ drive.

The simplest solution as noted above is to open the drive containing your video files (sorted alphabetically) and to double click on the video you wish to play.

Certainly did ask this question a few months back. My memory unfortunately is in the decline, sorry for that. I have a HD set for only Videos, and connected to computer as when needed. At present, as soon as a video is selected, VLC plays the previous video played. I have tried in concentrating on the Playlist settings, but it appears another setting within VLC requires re-setting. Thanks Bobby.

Sorry to say I can find no reference to your problem on Google, nor can I find a setting in VLC itself.

Petec, I fully agree, my searches proved negative too. I thought that perhaps a solution could be found in that VLC be set to open in the selected title video. Thanks, Bobby.

You've changed your HP Comp since the last time you had the problem. Have you noticed any other OS problems?
    https://wiki.videolan.org/
Have you been here to ask/seek an answer?
Have you got the latest version 2.2.6?

Experienced changes to installed files after each update of the OS. You are correct computer was changed to the new set up, and honestly a disaster. Contacting HP Support is impossible due to Product/Serial numbers I have are according to Support as not correct. No I did not have the latest version of VLC on the computer, but thanks to you, now have.

P'N = OMEN 870-203na Product number. S/N = OMEN 870-230na serial number of the said Computer. HP Support accepts the Product reference number but not the Serial number. No reference is made on the outside of the computer's case, other than the Product reference number. Only reference made is the label attached to the cardboard sealed box that contained the Computer. Question is the Computer one that label refers too? or how can it be verified? Without correct number known no contact can be made with HP Support.

If you have HP advisor you can find I there, In the BIOS, and HP Support Assistant.

Thank you for suggestions. Belarc Advisor does not show the serial number and HP Assistant does show the serial number but this number HP Support refuses to accept. Very strange indeed.

The product and serial numbers should be listed there. Please give me those numbers. OMEN 870-230na is the model and version.

Product or Model 27C24EA_A [HP Assistant. & box]. Serial number 4CE706112Q [shown on Computer back plate & box]. According to HP Support, both numbers should be shown on back plate.

Bobby, Belarc Advisor shows ALL my HP info under System Model. I can't understand why it doesn't show in your one. Is the info on the box/carton the comp was delivered/purchased in identical with the sticker on the computer?
Have you visited HP site and allowed product identification to recognize your unit?
HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? | HP® Customer Support
This is an example (US) and if you expand the Options - you will have the info you require.

Retiredlearner, checked Belarc again and under System Model it shows only the Serial number, as quoted above. Computer back only shows Serial number and is the same as the label on the box that contained the computer. Computer came from PCworld on line. PCworld exchanged this computer for the original computer that had a faulty Video Player. I am beginning to think something fishy is at stake. Will check your last suggestion.

OMEN 870-230na is definitely listed in HP Website as it was there 5 minutes ago. According to their information, I still have 9 months of warranty left. However, my Serial number fails to be recognised and as to good reason, why is it omitted on the computer's label, that only shows the Product reference number. Has the Serial number been omitted or removed by the manufacturer HP or the Retailer who sold me the computer? there must be an explanation for the omission?

Have you been fobbed off with a Refurbished comp that has been returned under warranty? Belarc shows the exact info that I can find inside the battery compartment in my HP 1000 Notebook and it will also show the Serial # for the Motherboard in this Home built comp.
LJ, Bobby's OMEN is UK model but it shows up in the US product list as well. Neil.
