My computer has slowed to a crawl after using Studio 10 Plus. I have done all the usual housekeeping and uninstalled Studio. However , when I try to use checkdisk I get the message "file system is NTFS. Cannot open volume for direct access. Windows has finished checking the disk." I have tried disabling virus checkers and monitors as recommended in one of the Microsoft tips but no luck. The only response I have had from running chkdsk without the /f or/r or /b was it launched in read only mode and I got the message
"File segment 48984 and 5,6 and 7 is unreadable "
Errors found. Checkdisk cannot continue in read only mode ". Subsequently I get the first blue and white message as above every time I reboot. What next?

    Hi

You did not say if this is the system drive perhaps c:

Or is it a secondary partition like d:

Or is it a USB drive. This can be a little different.

Do you have limited space on these drives?

What do you mean by cleanup. Specifically what did you do?

    So answer the above questions.

Let's do the below in order given.

    Download
    ATF-Cleaner

    http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/

check select all run twice or more until nothing else found
do same with the Firefox and Opera tabs

    Download CCleaner Slim version

    http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx

Click bottom right Run Cleaner twice or until no more found
Then in left panel click issues then Scan for issues, run twice or until no more found

Now for the Chkdsk. Do it this way!

Remove any CD's floppy disks from drives. Unplug any USB stick drives, unplug any portable USB HD's. Unplug any Cameras.

    Start-Run
    type
cmd hit enter or click ok

For all drives to check do below with your drive letters (if different)

    type
    chkdsk c: /x /r
    chkdsk d: /x /r

If Widows reports it cannot gain access it will offer to chkdsk on next restart. Answer yes, and reboot! May take some time.

    Report back!

At the least, your system is corrupt and will need to be reloaded. At the worst, your HD may be failing.

Based on your experience level given, I'll assume that you have tried System Restore, Safe Mode running chkdsk, Recovery Console running chkdsk, and the other easy stuff.

I would certainly make backups immediately of all valued data before going forward.

Get the manufacturers diagnostics and run the non-destructive tests.

Booting a BartPE CD and running the disk check utility it has may be a possible help. There is risk that ANY error repair utility may hose the disk and you'll lose all data!
