Not giving access, will result in the app not running on your machine.

I have tried doing it on my cell phone, and every time I install an app I give away access to some personal info and gallery and contacts as well. I tried to "don't allow access", but the app won't install than.
Looks like it is enforcing to free downloading with access to your personal info and that sucks. Any way around ?

Any app that wants access to my contacts obviously doesn't get installed, it is that simple!

I go a little further than that. Any app which wants to use sms/camera/location/mic/contacts gets booted off until & unless I need it on an urgent basis. Most of the apps on my phone want those access by default whether they require them to function properly or not. Data mining I presume.

The problem is with Android (Google owns it) and unless you "root" the phone and operate without GAPPS, you have very little control.
Without GAPPS - you can install Apps that you select with control.

If you root the phone your warranty goes out of the window.

That's nonsense. I can set permissions of any app I want, see 2 examples below:

@rsinfo, My phones were out of warranty - no problems.
Arie, if you run an Android phone - Google account has to be used to operate.
Rooting then gives you more choice.
Yes, you do not have to agree to permissions but this means very limited access in a lot of cases.
Selection of apps and whether you pay for Premium versions is a personal choice.
