I have had Windows xp one year == running fairly smoothly. Last month I bought the new 2003 Norton Antivirus (I had run 2002 for a year with no problems). As soon as I instaleld it, my color kept changing to 8 bit and my screen resolution dropped as low as 400 x 600. I'd put them back to where I wanted them... and before a few mintues passed.. theywere chanage. I e-mailed Norton and they said they had had that complaint from others but they were not able to replicate it in their lab, so they didn't know what to tell me (grrrrrrr)..sorry about that... anyway... for some reason, the screen resolution now stays where I want it, but when i put the color on 32 bit -- my computer blinks black, thinks a bit... and I'm at 8 bit.... then it turns black.. thinks a bit... I'm still at 8 bit. Every minute or so .. my screen turns black and thinks... even after it has changed to 8 bit. Any ideas? Not only is it aggravating... it takes a long time to get anything done. Thanks for any help.

Check for any video driver updates for your card. If you find one, turn off Norton while you install it.

Otherwise turn off Norton, remove and reinstall your present video driver, and then turn Norton back on.

Not positive but it may well fix you up. If not, I'd bug Norton and also drop a note to Microsoft Tech Support. They may have a fix for this.
