I can use google search by going to google.com but I want to be able to click on the "search" button at the top of ie6. It doesn't give the choise to use google. How, or is there a way to do this? Thank you, chris.

You can get nearly what you want. Click the Search Button, then click "Customize" on the screen that appears. Then click "Autosearch Settings." That will allow you to use Google as the search engine when you type the search criteria directly into the address bar. That may satisfy you.

Another easier way is to show the "Links" toolbar (View > Toolbars > Links and tag it), then drag or paste a Google link to it.

Another neat option would be to get an Internet Enhanced keyboard and configure the Search button on it to Google. I do it that way and it's pretty handy.

    :)

When I went to that page and clicked "download this file" nothing would download.

Hmmm. Works for me. You might try it again. If not you can copy and paste into notepad all the lines between the lines below. Name it google.reg and save it and then run the file. Should do the trick.

Still not sure what I'm suppoised to do. When I went to the page (again) and click on the link, it just goes to a blank page.

I get lost at the "run the file." Tell me exatly what I shluld do. Thank you, chris.

After you save the file go to the folder you saved it in and double click on the file. You will be prompted as to whether or not you want to add the information to the registry. Choose yes and that's all there is to it. Open IE and see if it worked. If not, you may have to reboot for it to take effect, however I don't think this is the case.

    Chris:

The page didn't work for me either. Instead of receiving a blank screen though, mine opened a new window which showed the text of the .reg file.

The way around this was to hold down the SHIFT key while clicking on the link. This opened the File Download window.

Thanks for the tip. It didn't work even when I held down the shift key. I can't beleve ie won't allow easy access to google in the search window. This *****. Chris.

Did you try Zander's suggestion of getting Google to be your default search engine by creating your own .reg file and adding this to your registry?
