I have just added an extra 250gb external usb hard drive and when i go to the MY Computer Screen the new drive icon is shown as a zip drive icon ,my previous usb drive was shown with the same icon as a normal hard drive and i would like to change the new drive icon to the same. it is also shown as drive K: the same drive letter that shows when i use a usb pen drive, the old drive came up as drive L:.
Is it possible to select what drive letter it uses ?
The old drive that i am now using as a spare is a 160gb formatted with Fat32
the new drive is a 250gb formatted with NTFS
My operating system is XP Home using two internal 200gb drives formatted with Fat32

any help would be welcome many thanks in advance.

To change the drive letter, right click on the My Computer icon and choose Manage from the popup menu. Then from the list of offered utilities choose Disk Management. You will see all the drives currently connected, right click on the USB drive and choose 'Change Drive Letter and Paths....' then choose the Change option and choose a new letter. Not sure if this will stick after a reboot.

Can't help with changing the icon.

Many thanks McTavish selecting another drive letter seems to have done the trick even after a re-boot. It seems that the zip icon is designated to the K: drive no matter what type of drive is being used, that may be due to a Zip drive being the first removalable drive ever used on my pc .
