I have had Windows XP installed but do not like it so I am considering going back to Windows 98.
Do you think I will have problems doing this and is this an easy operation? Any help would be appreciated.

    leopardlady,
    Need a bit more information...
Did you upgrade to XP OVER the top of '98? If so, you may have the option in the control panel to return to '98 if the option to archive your old settings and OS was selected in the upgrade. (and the drive hasn't been converted from FAT32 to NTFS?) I think I'm correct in saying this? I have only done an upgrade over W2K with a Beta version of XP so I'm forgetting the options I had way back then

If you don't have the uninstall option in the Control Panel then you have to reformat and load a fresh install of '98 using a '98 startup floppy disk to have access to your CDROM as 98 isn't a bootable CD.

So what's wrong with XP over '98, or is your hardware/system specs a bit low to run it successfully?

    Thanks for your help.
It was not loaded over Windows 98 so it may be hard to fix as drivers would be different???
Windows 98 seems to be easier to use than XP but as this is my Dad's computer I don't use it so I don't know.
I don't think he is confident enough to change back to 98.

Maybe if you first try changing the look of XP back to the 98 interface he's used to (Control Panel>Display>Theme, choose "Windows Classic" from the drop-down menu), he'll feel more comfortable with it. That'll sure be a lot easier than what I suspect will be a reformat/reinstall to get back to 98.

Give it a week after making the interface change and if he doesn't like it, going back to 98 is still an option.

I have emailed your reply to Dad (not to basic) and I will let him decide what to do - if he needs more help I will contact you again.
    Thank you.
