    Hi all
    PC spec: Duron 800MHz, 256Ram, Pcchips 810LMR M/B, TNT2 Graphics card

I've got a PC which i want to upgrade the graphics card from a TNT2 to a Geforce4.
I've uninstalled the TNT2 drivers but when i install the new ones for the Geforce4 the screen locksup just as the desktop appears.
I was running detonator v41.09 so i used detonator destroyer but this didnt make any difference.
I've loaded windows onto a fresh hard disk and then installed the geforce4 drivers and it worked fine, so there must be a file from the old tnt2 card still left in the system causing problems.

I've disabled all the startup files in Msconfig bar the needed ones.
Also checked Autoexec, Msconfig, win.ini etc etc....but nothing is starting up causing any probs

    Hi KDC

Windows can't use a secondary display adapter in anything other than vga mode .
    That may be the problem

    At least in win me

What os do you run ?
Here is a method that may if tailord to your os might work.
But first let this post stew awile incase someone else helps

Boot into safe mode with original card in (only) go into device manager and first disable (in this profile) then remove each display adapter alll of them -dont reboot if prompted --go into addremove and uninstall both of the cards sofware and also the onboard s if any --dont reboot .
Install the new cards software if its instructions say to mine did not --if not leave it in the tray (cd) or flopy in ...
Now close any windows and shut down
Wait awile unplug everything take out the card and put the new card in --start the pc go into bios and disable the onboard
If any -- exit saveing changes ---windows will detect new hardware and let her(tempermentel) search for the proper driver

of course this assumes you have pnp enabled through windows
and the bios --since you mentioned auto exec Wait for somebodys opinion thats familur with an older os .

    Happy 2003
