A number of web-sites I've used have a "Contact Us" capability. When I use it, I get Word as the e-mail editor and the final message goes out showing a sender address that was discontinued 4 months ago, when I switched from Verizon with MSN to Comcast.

I've been trying for a couple of hours to find out how to switch the default sender from my old ISP (msn.com) to comcast.net (my current ISP) but to no avail.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried to use the "email account settigs" page in Outlook, but have been stymied by the lack of definition of the parameters. I know for sure that my outgoing server on the account I want to add is "smtp.comcast.net ". I thought that the equivalent incoming one was "mail.comcast.net ".

What's not clear is how I indentify myself for the "add an email" pane. Do they want my MSN address or my new Comcast address. Netiher of them work when I do the "try it out" routine.

I'm also confused by the fact that I killed my Verizon and MSN addresses back on 16 March, when I moved my business to Comcas, tbut MSN thinks my old address is still current. I haven't paid them a nickel since I cancelled the account back in March.

I'm trying to unlatch myself from MSN and Hotmail and get Outlook to work with my current Comcast identity.

When I try the Outlook page where I can add a POP3 account, it bogs down on something I can't identify.

I'm trying to get my current POP3 identity into the system. I know that the incoming server is "mail.comcast.net" and the outgoing one is "smtp.comcast.net ".

What I haven't been able to figure out is whether the identification pane wants my old msn.com identifier and address or my new comcast.net address. I've run just about every combination I can think of, but can't get what I'm trying to achieve.

Any more ideas? This is driving me nuts - it shouldn't be this difficult!

I realise after going through the "Make Outllook your e-mail" procedures (without success, by the way) that that's not really what I'm trying to accomplish. I can live with Comcast's clunky e-mail program (just barely). It's nowhere near as good as msn.com in many ways.

What I'm trying to do is change what default outgoing mail the computer uses when a website has an "ask us" feature. Right now, it will pick MSWord as its document create/edit program and then sends the e-mail out under an msn.com address that I cancelled back in March. I want to revise that default outgoing e-mail to be Comcast. If people reply to my old msn.com address, I might never see it.

I seem to recall, when I first went with Comcast, I had problems with some of these websites' "contact us" routines not being able to find a mail server. Based on advice from a couple of MCSEs (my son being one) I made Hotmail the default. I can't remember how I did that, can't find my son's e-mail that told me how to do it and want to make Comcast the default.

    Help please, guys and gals.

Impossible to be precise if we don't know which version of Windows you are using or which version of IE :)

In XP - open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Programs and set Hotmail as the default under email.

In Windows 7 (I passed on Vista) - Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Default Programs.

Sorry about that, Pete. IE8 and XP-SP3. Have done as you suggested and will wait for the next "Contact us" to show up.

    Thanks.
