    Hi!

Im having trouble installing Philips USB dictation device (its basicly a fancy microphone/speker). Windows conciders it as an audio device, so in order to get the software working it needs to be the default audio device.

The problem is that when you install this device on Fujitsu Siemens esprimo (realtek sound card) and change the default audio device it only aplies to the profile you are logged on when installing. So every user has to change the audio settings (there are a lots of users/machine, and getting them to change some settings them selves is not easy).

This is where it gets interesting... this problem has clearly something to do with the hardware. There are several different machines using this same device/software and they work just fine. I am quessing that it has something to do with the sound card drivers. It somehow forces every new profile to use it self as default device. So the guestion is how can I change this?

Try running the driver installation program for sound card again. They probably share common files and the dictation device does not like the version it has to use/share.

The soundcard may have been being accessed at the time of the D/D's installation. You could try uninstalling the D/D (software and drivers), disable the soundcard in Device Mangler and try the installation again.
