Obviously Johanna, you've gone to the download site http://download.sis.com/ and updated the various drivers pertaining to the system, in particular the AGP(GART) v1.17E driver and checked that the card does support 4x.
Check for any information on an available BIOS update to see if there is a fix for a known problem.

    Hi Johanna,

Looked in the motherboard manual for K7S5A (PCB 1.X) and could not find settings for AGP or jumpers. It may be that the BIOS automatically detects the AGP capability of the graphics card you are using. Can you pls supply the make and model of the graphics card? It will depend on whether the graphics card is 4x or only 2x.

The one setting in the BIOS that may be applicable is "load best performance ", although there does seem to be any AGP setting to load.

    Suggestion

    Johanna ...

For what it's worth, you might want to try emailing ATI tech support....I have had several occasions where I contacted them and they where very very helpful each and every time and always contacted me a second time wanting to know if the issue was resolved ...(matter of fact, that is the main reason I buy their products)

    Cheers
    Jake

Triger's suggestion sounds good, always a change when you get a reply :)

My search couldn't find an "ATI RV100 DDR Video Adapter ", as such. Where are you reading this? What is Device Manager's description? Is that what Aida32 says it is?

You may have the wrong drivers installed.

Is the video onboard? (Not from the manual I looked at.)

May have to physically remove the card and identify it from the markings. (Unless you have some specifications, manuals, etc, already).

ATI may be the way to go, but you may have to armed with a few details.

PS I wondered about running DXDIAG, although it does not include info on the AGP rating, but could give information on your drivers.

Thanks, guys. It was an older driver holding back the vid card. I had no luck finding the right driver on the net, but XP updated it for me in Device Mgr. from version 2 to 5!!! I stumbled on this trying to correct another problem- HEAT- so, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go put the processor in the freezer, now, for lack of a better idea! :D
