    Hi,

A couple of days ago i was working on a Microsoft Publisher document, and saved it as Homework. Later that night, as I was flicking through 'My computer', I decided to rename the document.
Upon pressing enter (after renaming it) I was greeted with the alert; "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unstable. Are you sure you want to change it? ".
Foolishly, i disregarded this and pressed 'yes'.

Now, when i open the document, i am greeted by the message; "Publisher cannot locate the file. Check to make sure that you typed the correct path and filename, and that the floppy disk is inserted correctly; then try again. "

I desperately need to retrieve this file for my coursework.
ANY suggestions on how to do so would be greatly apppreciated.

Publisher (as far as I know) uses the file extension .pub

Rename the file again but this time add .pub (with the dot, no space) to the end of the name then try opening it again.

When Windows is set up (as it is by default) to hide common file extensions, it's easy to leave the file extension off when renaming. The file extension (the three letters following the dot) are what Windows uses to know what program to use to open the file.

To show file extensions so this doesn't happen again, open My Computer, go to Tools>Options>View tab and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types," click OK.
