Hi: I think I asked the wrong question recently. Instead, here's what I would like to do:

Say I open MS Word, and click the "open..." icon in the toolbar or file menu. The directory that appears has a bunch of icons to the column left, like "history" "my documents" , "desktop" etc. How can I add icons (shortcuts, aliases) of my own choosing to that column? And once added, can I delete/change them? Thank you.

Depends on your version of Office and whether you mind hacking the registry to hide the default icons...
