Been using Windows 7 with WLM for the past three months. I miss ten years of Outlook Express. Especially the source edit feature that removes those dreaded vertical blue lines. Is there an Outlook Express download available.? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

    Make it a great day,
    Lis

Appreciate your reply, Pete C. Sad news.

Does 2010 Outlook have a source edit option? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

An upgrade in sometimes a downgrade?

    Hi Lis,

The title of the article is misleading.......
If read carefully, you will see that this is directions on how to substitute vistas "Windows Mail" (= xp's outlook express) for Windows 7 "Live Mail ". I guess, while this is not Outlook Express, it is meant as a substitute for the next best or closest thing. Window "s Mail does have built in "source edit ", "Live Mail" does not.

I can't and am not commenting on this substitution, because I don't know if it works, just offering a bit of clarification. Pete is not wrong. :D

Appreciate all the replies. However, an answer to the issue has not been resolved? In fact. I am somewhat confused? Perhaps WLM is the only answer?

    Hello Lis,
    Still confused?

NO, it is no longer supported nor compatible in windows 7.

Two possible work arounds were offered:

    1.Pete's link:
    http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/edithtml.htm

    2.cozzielez's work around (hack sorta')
    http://ready2beat.com/technology/software/outlook-express-windows-7-windows-mail-download

Despite the title of cozzielex's linked article, above, this is not outlook express for windows 7 but rather a hack/replacement for older "windows mail" to replace "live mail ". (It was offered because older "windows mail" does support "source edit ")

As far as office 2010 supporting "source edit ", this is still unknown. None of us use it. I will help you look into this as time permits. Hang in there.

When I get time - not until later today at the earliest, I'll fire up Outlook 2010 and see if the information in the URL I posted remains valid.

    Hi all,

This method works for Outlook 2007. I see no reason why it wouldn't in 2010.
    http://sysudi.blogspot.com/2010/01/outlook-2007-edit-your-messages-html.html

It took some doing but I have succeeded in adding html edit source to my Outlook 2007.

    ------------------
Opps! Darn it! It worked once. I don't know what went wrong??? I'm to tired to figure this out now. I will have to get back to it.

The method outlined in Ann's URL worked just once for me too in Outlook 2007 - then did nothing.

In Outlook 2010 the icon was inserted as per the URL, but it did nothing at all.

    Hi all,

I think I have figured it out. When selecting the button icon I gave the button a name "edit source" so that it showed up named something different the project module it was made under, "projectone.edithtml ". In other words I ended up with a button(in my case I choose the smiley) and named it "edit source ". Now it works every time.

Still doesn't work for me - not that I have ever edited the source and cannot think of a situation in which I would want to :)

    Howdy,

I could write up a "step by step" of what I did, for anyone interested. Personally, I can't see Lis using this info. It makes me nervous, anyway, sense it requires the "allowing and running of macros" in Outlook. I don't do this, for security reasons, and was only considering this as a workaround for Lis. I didn't realize it was going to turn into what I would consider a non-friendly/non-beginner/risky method. I've only stuck to it, out of curiosity and as a learning experience.

The reading homework was a snore/bore. In truth, only skimmed and spot read.

I'm checking out Thunderbird 3.0.4 and the intention is to transfer from XP + Outlook Express on old computer to W7 + Thunderbird on new computer ... ... without losing any mail.

I've never edited HTML in a reply to a mail or when forwarding a mail but I checked and found the possibility to do so in Thunderbird 3.0.4 (out of the box, no add-on required). Maybe there's information on the subject in a dedicated Firefox/Thunderbird Forum?
