I am using XP Home SP-3 with IE 8.0 and Outlook Express. I am upgrading from word 2003 to Office 2007. As part of the upgrade I wish to go to Outlook in lieu of Outlook Express. How do I remove Outlook express and if necessary IE 8.0 to allow installation of Outlook with IE 8.0. I understand it is not possible to have both Outlook Exopress and Outlook installed at the same time.

I don't know if Outlook Express can be removed but that would not be necessary.

If I remember correctly, when you install Microsoft Outlook, it will make itself the default mail client. If I'm wrong, you have the choice to make Microsoft Outlook the default mail client.

I have Microsoft Outlook (XP/2002) installed but have chosen to use Outlook Express. Each time there is an update for Office which concerns Outlook, it sets Outlook as the default mail client and I have to change it back to Outlook Express. That makes me ... ... but will make you ... :p ... !

IE8 has nothing to do with neither Outlook Express nor Microsoft Outlook.

    Outlook Express to Outlook

While loading Office 2007 and arrived at the Option to install Outllok I was told that Outlook Express had to be removed first. I can't dispute your hands on experience but am concerned it might not work the same way for me.

You've better wait for input from someone with more experience of Office 2007 than I have. I have only helped a friend install "Office Home and Student 2007" once and ... ... Outlook is not included in that version.

All versions of Outlook up to 2003 MUST have OE on the pc since they share files. I'd venture to guess that Outlook2007 would be the same.

All versions of Outlook up to 2003 don't care how many different email apps you have installed - including OE...and you can use em all at the same time etc...Again, I don't think 2007 would be any different.

During the install - Outlook will probably import all of your mail and settings from OE and make itself the default app.

I've never come across this, but who knows.... If I have some chance I'll try to reproduce, but it'll take a while (in my book, that's multiple days, up to 1-2 weeks...)

Can you provide a link to a creditable web site where you heard this from? OE is all but embedded into the OS...

    Read my other post;)

Can't determione if spell checker is affected because I cannot activate word 2007. In any event the source of the warning regarding necessity to remove outlook express came from the CD for Office Professional Plus 2007 which I purchased.

I higly doubt it would prompt you to remove Outlook Express. I have had both Office 2007 & Outlook Express installed on XP in the past.

Although this was the 1st time I heard about Office Professional Plus 2007

I installed Office 2007 in XP SP3 which had OE installed & never received a prompt to remove it. Like I said before, never heard of it before either.

Below Outlook Startup running together with OE.
