    Hi all,

I installed Avast and I thought I unchecked the addons, but I didn't see Google Toolbar.

I uninstalled Google (Revo Uninstaller), but it was too late. I had dragged & dropped some internet sites to my Desktop and they all now open in Internet Explorer.

How do I change it back to SeaMonkey? I did a search here, but there were 3,764 threads.

    Suggestion ....

    Copy/Paste link into Seamonkey

    Delete Desktop shortcut

Send link from Seamonkey to Desktop

Disclaimer - never used Seamonkey :)

    Or

Check that Seamonkey is your default browser.

    Hi Pete,

There's too many links to do as you suggested. And as far as SeaMonkey being my default browser, I checked Edit | Preferences, and there's no box to set SM as my Default Browser, although it was before the Google thing.

    UPDATE:

I did a System Restore and everything came back the way it was. However, I'm not going to mark this as resolved because I' like to know how to change the file association process. I know it's:
Control Panel | Folder Options | File Types and then there's something to do there and that's what I'd like to know.

To set Seamonkey as Default browser ....

    Setting default browser manually
It would seem that the 3 URL protocols and file types in the list above cannot be assigned to a specific browser - Opens With is blank and change button is greyed out.

The HTM & HTML Files can be associated with another browser

The extension URL - Internet shortcut (scroll down the list to URL) can be changed from IE to .....

    Hi Pete,

Thanks for the Set Program Defaults reminder; I knew there was something somewhere. I tend to forget things I've used only once in 5 years. :p

And you are correct that in that some are grayed out. I was able to change one of them, "URL File ", to SeaMonkey, but that's it "” the rest are (NONE) and grayed out.

There's still 2 (MHT & MHTML) that are IE, but from what I've read (Wiki) they are for saving web pages. Should I change those to SeaMonkey?

I suppose I'm going to have to go to the Avast website to find out why, when I unchecked the Google Toolbar addon, it was installed anyway and it changed all my URL's from SM to IE. Although after I did a System Restore and reinstalled Avast and drilled (I mean really drilled) through the Settings, there was a box that was unchecked in Trouble shooting for "Do not use Chrome as default browser ".
I checked that box and SeaMonkey is now my default for everything, I hope.

However, I don't understand why there isn't a box in SM 2.x that says to "Make SM my default . . ." when there is in SM 1.x

If you want to save web pages I would say - yes, go ahead and change them. You can always change them back!
That's a Seamonkey issue - I suggest you pose that question in the SeaMonkey forum

    Hi Pete,

My e-mail provider is munging my mail. I'll get a "reply ", but the body copy is entirely different: e.g., I got a response from a different website but the body copy was from here "” hence my tardy reply.

Anyway, thank you for the responses. I think I figured out why, even though I unchecked the add-ons for Avast, that it installed Chrome and changed all my SeaMonkeys to IE. I'll post in another forum here about what I found and see if anyone else has\had the problem.

    Thanks, again, Pete.
