New computer with Win XP. Loaded Netscape 4.79 and having troubles visiting certain sites that I used to visit. I get error messages stating "The certificate issuer for this server is not recognized by Netscape - The security certificate may or may not be valid" "Netscape refuses to connect to this server" I have java and java script enabled. What am I missing here? Appreciate your help.

    Hi warthog,

    Close Netscape
    Open Windows Explorer
    Browse to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\username
    Rename cert7.db to cert7.old
    Start Netscape

This should clear up the problem. If it does, then you can delete cert7.old. If no joy, then you may have to create a new Profile.

Ramona - Thank you much. That did the trick. If I may impose one further question. In another thread re: rebuilding the Netscape registry you mention that after renaming NSREG.DAT to NSREG.BAK one needs to restart Netscape. Netscape will prompt for a new Profile. Then give the exact name of the old profile. I am confused here. Which profile are we talking about? I have 5 profiles. Presumably the NSREG.DAT covers all 5? Which specific name should I be using for the "old profile ". Appreciate your response. Once again thanks for the fix on the certificate issue.

    Hi Warthog,

Glad that your Certificates are behaving!

    Rebuild the Netscape Registry:

Back up all USERS directories (which include your five Profile folders)
    Close Netscape
    Rename NSREG.DAT to NSREG.BAK
    The file is located in:
    C:\WINDOWS

Restart Netscape using your default Profile

The User Profile Manager will prompt for a new User Profile Name. Enter the same name as the current User Profile. If the Profile name is Cal, then use Cal again.

Then you will be asked the following:

The directory you specified appears to already contain profile data. Would you like to use profile data that already exists in this directory? Answer: YES.

Restore the remaining four Profiles the same way.

If this isn't clear, please post back with any questions.
