My Computer, and Recycle Bin icons don't work on the Desktop.

I click on "Start ", and My Computer, Recycle Bin, music, pictures, and My Documents don't work.

Seems like everything else opens up.

Yesterday I shut down the laptop. Windows needed to update, and it said not to shut off the computer. It would do it automatically, when done. It took over 15 hours to complete the update. I still have the Yellow shield in the task bar, saying updated ready to install. They should have been updated in the first session of 15 hrs.

I tried to reboot and it wouldn't reboot. I'm afraid to do a forced shut down.

This is on a Dell Vostro 1500, Win XP, sp3.

I don't know what to do next.

    Thanks ahead,
    Bob

Try logging-off your user. That might help to reset it.
