I just got my cell phone. Great. I want to use it as a wireless modem for my laptop through the IR ports on the devices. The instructions for windows xp in the manual say that i should point it at the IR port and it will automatically set it up. It did. But whenever I try to dial with it it gives me errors while initializing, and if that succeeds it gives me error during dials. If it starts to dial it will give me an error soon after. Each error tells me that it could not initialize the modem. (The phone did aknowledge the computer, sometimes it doesn't though). Any suggestions?

    Motorola L7089 voicestream/windows xp pro - toshiba satelite 1805-s204

    thanks.

You'll more than likely need some drivers for the phone/built-in modem. I've never worked with a motorola but I know with NOkia's you get the drivers on the CD or the website.

Might be worth having a look on the Motorola site for something similar. Also (at least in the UK) you may need to contact your cellphone carrier and ask them to data enable your SIM card.

I'm using a Siemens SL55 (SL56 in the US) to do the same thing.

I needed to set up a seperate modem (GPRS via IrDA) and use the correct phone number to "dial in "...

It's working quite nicely, logging it at 57.6kbps.
