Sometimes on XP I insert a CD/CDROM and it won't be recognized. I try to explore it and it says that there is no CD. So the way I fix it is by restarting with a CD already inserted. Once I do that I can insert and remove CD with no problems, but only sometimes. Cause it fails to recognize it about 60% of the time. I've tried re-installing XP and my CD drives to be detected again loading the drivers, but to now avail. I've looked at the KB at Microsoft, but no postings. I've downloaded all possible Service Packs, but nothing will fix it yet. Does anyone out there have any info. on this problem. I'd appreciate it, thanks.

    Q,
A couple of things to try... (1) Go into the device manager and delete (uninstall) the offending CDROM, reboot and let windows redetect and install the CDROM.
If this doesn't help try the following that applies as you haven't given quite enough info. (2) If the CD is connected to IDE 2 with another CD or CDRW change the order in which the CD is master and slave, changing the appropriate jumper on the back of the drive(s). Make sure you always delete the drive from the device manager before the change so windows will correctly redetect it.
    (3) Slave the CDROM to the harddrive on IDE 1.

    This may help, I hope:)

CDROM stops Auto Playing. Some of the "Services" Tweaks turn this off. If I have mis-understood the problem, my apologies!

The service: "Shell Hardware Detection" has been set to Manual or Disabled. Go to Control Panel,

Administrative Tools, Services. Return this service to "Automatic ".
