the drives but when i typed in anything on the blank space with
the cursor blinking waiting for input nothing happens. I mean
nothing appears when i key in anything.

    Shariff,

You can't do this - it is greyed out - Cd-RW is a removeable drive - i.e. drive volume name depends on the disk inserted.

Put a disk in the drive and go to Properties and the volume lable of the disk will be shown. If it's a CD-RW disk you may be able to change the volume name - for that disk.

There may be a way of doing what you want via the Registry, but I don't know of it.

Right click - My Computer - click 'Manage' - this opens the 'console'. Under 'Storage Devices' - go to 'Disk Management', then right click the drive you want to change. Select change drive letter and paths... click the 'Change' button and select the new drive letter assignment. I set mine toward the end of the alphabet (DVD x, CDrw y, and the ZipDrive to z). That way if I add a hard drive or new partitions the CD/DVD drive letters won't be automatically changed. HTH

    Mr B

I interpreted the post as Shariff wanted to rename the drive, i.e. rename 'CD-RW Drive; to something else, not to re-assign a drive letter. You are clearly correct if he wants to change the drive letter.

What exactly do you want to do Shariff?

    Pete,
The first time I read the original post, I thought he was trying to change the drive letter... now I'm not sure. I ran across the exact same post in a different forum, he hasn't answered back on that one either. Maybe he'll check back after the weekend. Have a good evening.
