My son has a (weird?) CD-RW problem - On re-booting after powering down (or re-starting), both his CD-ROM and CD-RW drives are found. However, if he turns the power of at the wall, the CD-RW is not found the next time he boots. However it is found if he re-boots or powers off then re-starts later.
The computer has an Award BIOS (2A69KD49). There is no PnP OS option in the PNP/PCI Configuration menu item in the BIOS setup. The MSI brand CD-RW is set as slave on IDE-1, and the CD-ROM is set as slave on IDE-2. The HDD is jumpered as master with slave. OS is Win98SE. Can anybody help please?

    Hi doddy,
Just a suggestion. If you're O.K. working inside your computer, put the CD-R as master on IDE2 and the CD-RW as slave on IDE2 as well. Make sure to reset the CMOS setting (Standard CMOS Setup Menu) to "AUTO" for both. (ie. Secondary Master and Secondary Slave)
    Hope it works for you.

    clempp.

p.s. Mine are setup like this, with 2 HDDs on IDE1. I have no problems with any of them.
