looking at the front of my computer i see it says 40x max

i bought a computer game after seeing it only needed an 8x cd rom speed

my cd rom isnt fast enough for the game

why isnt it? i mean, it says its 40x which i thought would be faster than 8x

where is the fault in my logic?

    i dont understand this :(

    Hi, Miss Kitty ~

When you see a configuration that looks like 24x12x40, these numbers indicate the drive speeds of the CD drive or the CD media rating.

The first number '24' indicates the speed at which the CD drive will record data onto a CD. The second number '12' indicates the speed at which the CD drive will rewrite data onto a CD-RW. The last number '40' indicates the speed at which the drive will read data from a compact disc.

Your CD drive will read at 40x max. If the game requires only 8x, then your CD will read it just fine.

Why do you think it isn't fast enough for the game??

my cdrom would start making a really loud noise and after about two minutes of this chugging type noise, the game would shut it's self down.

games that require 4x run smooth and no loud noise

that is where i got confused.

i thought that the 40x was really running at a 4x, and that was why the game didnt work.

it runs fine in my mothers computer, she has a dvdplayer cd rom. no noise, no problems

    it has really confused

    Hi, Kit ~

Please my post here and try using the DMA.

If that doesn't work, there may be a problem with the drive.
