We put a CD into the drive (which is Drive E on our computer) and the busy light flashes then nothing happens. We can click on the CD icon under My Computer and the error "E:\is not accessible. The device is not ready." appears. In DOS, we receive somewhat the same error "not ready reading drive E when trying to access Drive E. "

This is our second CD-ROM, the first one did the same thing. We replaced it with the current one thinking it was the CD-ROM. It worked fine for a month or so and then started doing the same thing as the first. We are at a loss as to what to do.

We had a couple of viruses on the computer, not sure if they would have done anything. They were, Kak Worm, W32.bedtrans.gem and hooker Trojan. With the help of some kind folks on another thread we cleaned our system up and are finally virus free.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hopefully, it may simply be a loose connection. Take the back of the computer and make sure that everything leading to and from the drive is firmly connected. Post back if the problem persists.

BTW - avoid static! Either wear a wrist-strap or touch a metal object before reaching into the machine.

BTW again - this problem is definitely *not* related to W32.Badgrans, W32.Bedpans, or any of the other viruses which had infected your computer :)

Brett, hubby has done that twice, even blowing compressed air around it b/c it was pretty dusty.

    Any more ideas? :)
