I have always burned music from my pc on regular CD-R discs without problems, but I think that if you want to use a home audio CD-R recorder that most of them require CD-R Audio discs.

I have been told this is because of royalties. Audio CD-R discs are higher in price; the extra cost is for the payment of royalties to the artists for copying their music. Home audio CD-R recorders look for the "stamp" that identifies an audio CD-R. From my experience if they're not audio CD-Rs most home audio CD-R recorders won't let you use them to burn music.

Since computer cd-roms don't look for that "stamp" the comptuer doesn't know nor care that you are using a CD-R or an audio CD-R. Hence, I have yet to buy an audio CD-R for use with my computer.

Other than this, they are physically the same.

Here are links to Verbatim and Memorex's sites if you want more info:

iceolated has given you the nutshell. Remember, you are recording 1's and 0's. Digital is digital. With analog tape, there is more magnetic material packed into them.
