I just recently bought a new PC with Windows XP and a CD burner. I've been trying to figure out if I can do multisession recording on a CD-R disk but have been unsuccessful so far. It seems logical that I should be able to record a file and then record another file later on the same CD-R disk but I keep getting messages that say I should insert a new disk after each session. Is it possible to do what I desire and if so how do I go about it?---thanks for your help, Marion McCaleb

    Marion,

I am somewhat amazed that your PC was delivered without any CD burning software - just the native XP burning software. Check out any CD's which may have come with it. Every CD-RW drive on the market comes with burning software. Nevermind though I'll take a look at what the Win XP software will/will not do.
To paraphrase a well known M$ phrase - 'What do you want to do today', the answer being almost anything you want - data cd's, audio cd's, mixed content cd's, video cd's, multisession cd's, closed cd's - you name it Nero can do it.

Nero is the baseline standard, generally preferred over Roxio. Suggest you download a trial from here

If you decide to give Nero a try you should disable XP CD burning - My Computer > Right click on CD-RW > Properties > Recording > uncheck 'Enable CD recording .....'

    Marion,

Rooting through the M$ site I came across this forum in which it was said
    to which the reply was
Worth a read through, but I would still recommend Nero as being so much more versatile.

    Hi guys

Have similar questions with "EAC" -- Exact Audio Copy. Creating a full copy of CD with correct CUE sheet and then to burn, no problem. Most CD's have alot of room remaining on the disk after the burn. Would like to "repeat" additional favorite song(s) from the same source CD into the (original ?) burn. Have not been able to figure this out. Anyone have any experience with Exact Audio Copy. Also additional audio program needs for various OS platforms if interested.

Hey PeteC: You missed a function of Nero. I also will burn DVD-R and DVD-RW, if you have a DVD- burner installed. Problably would also burn DVD+R & DVD+RW if your DVD Burner has that drive format.

    Martinr,

You're quite right, of course, but I covered myself I think :D
I have not explored that aspect of Nero - it's not one that immediately comes to mind as I do not have a DVD burner - and clearly Nero does not offer me that option without a burner.
