I can not eject my RW-CD's by pressing the eject button on the CD's front panel in XP. It worked fine in Windows Me. I just did a full install of XP Pro a frew days ago and am trying to get the bugs out. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks

What software are you using for writing to the CD-RW?
If you are using software that uses UDF packet writing then you can only eject the disc using the program, normally by right clicking the icon in the system tray a choosing eject. This is a safety feature to prevent the disc being ejected while it is still writing or verifying written data.

In a pinch, there is usually a little release button located near the press button that can be accessed with a paperclip or other high tech tool...LOL

I wonder if XP "sees" the cd drive? Have you tried forcing it to look? (hardware wizard) Could you have loosened any connections during your work? Make sure everything is plugged in properly inside and out. Good luck, and let us know what you figure out.

    Johanna,

Ezbob's explanation is the right one - for InCD and similar packet writing software.

EZBob, thank you for the info. I am running InCD in the UDF format. I went to InCD's web site and downloaded new drivers and now I can use the front panel button to eject RW cd's on my desktop. However, on my wifes desktop (by just switching users) the front panel button does not work. The CD will eject my using the programs eject radio button though. We have two users on our system myself and my wife. If I totally log off my desktop and my wife logs on to hers then the front panel button works. Is this more explainable?

    Thanks
