I put 2 cd drives into my windows 98 system and got the blue screen (very slightly edited here): 'Multifunction - device (Standard dual PCI IDE controller) has child devices using 32 bit drivers and others using compatibility mode drivers. These are not supported. After you restart, windows will use compatability mode drivers for each child device. If you want 32-bit drivers, get updated drivers.' After this, neither cd drive is recognized, and after I removed one drive and fixed the cmos to show only one drive, and set the drive to 'computer select' , the drive icon shows on 'my computer' but doesn't read a cd. I want to be able to use at least one cd. How can I reverse Windows' action? I had a similar problem on a computer using xp, and fixed some 'upper' and 'lower' filters in the registry. adamsmill@hotmail.com

I would suggest going back to basics. I would select one CD drive, preferably the burner, set the jumper as the Master, the other as a Slave.
If you have a 40 wire IDE connector ribbon, the Master is the middle connection, the Slave is the closer end.
If you have a 80 wire IDE [ATA] ribbon, the Master is the end connection in this case.
Do a search in the registry for the Value "NoIDE ", and delete it.
