When I press on the eject button the case, it gives a 'blocked' sound, it whirs a bit and stops, then the activity light blinks. The tray doesn't slide out. I've tried the paperclip & pinhole method, but it yields the same results. There is no disc inside. Even though I have another drive on this machine that can read CDs & DVDs, this is the only one that can write to CDs. Any suggestions?

Update 1: Pinhole method allows me to pull out the drive manually (i.e. with two fingers) when all power is off.

Update 2: The pinhole method seems to work when the computer is turned on and in Windows, but when I push the tray back in, it 'rejects' the cd and it slides back out.

Sounds like it might be time to replace it...There is an electrical switch that controlls the door that seems to have died...

I recently fixed a drive for my daughter's boyfriend. Took out the drive, removed the 4 smalll screws at bottom and removed the front panel & case. The sliding tray is on a track and must be aligned properly. Manually move the "gear" and watch the tray slide, you'll see where is "messes up ". It is possible that the tray has a tiny knob that broke off, in which case replace the drive, else line up the tray correctly and retest. After 20 min of careful study and fooling I managed to fix the drive for him. It "broke" originally because someone had bumped the tray when it was slid out & they forced it back in the drive w/ a shove.
