Whenever I insert a CD in my CD drive, the indicator light blinks and after some time the cd comes out automatically without reading. I tried several times but could not get the CD read.

    Hello vpanchapakesan,

Lets see what Device manager shows.

    Right click My Computer

    Properties

    Hardware tab

    Device Manager

Expand (click +) DVD/CD ROM Drives

Is the drive there? If so, is there any warning (yellow shield)?

Right click on drive > properties - what does the device status say?

I've added to your thread title for more detail.

    Regards - Charles

Try a basic remedy: go back into DM and right click on the ROM drive and Uninststall. Then re boot, Windows will redetect the drive.

You don't say, but have you tried several types/brands of disk. It could not be that the disk is a DVD and the drive only reads CDs?

I suggest you test the drive. Go into the Configuration/Startup settings when you first startup. Try inserting a CD there. If it stays in the drive, see if it is ejected when you boot into Windows. If it ejects when you are in the startup settings the drive is probably faulty (although check using several types of disk).

    Matt
