Does someone know some good CD burning software(no DVD): more convenient than built-in XP burner, system friendly, stable, compact, without unnecessary extras?

You might have a look at Deep Burner . There's a free version available that'll do what most people want. No spyware involved. And, from what I remember, credits for this one go to Newt (thanks Newt!).

I've used Nero for years and burnt several thousand CD's (and DVD's) without a problem.

I don't know what could be more convenient than XP's simply right-clicking a file and sending it to a burner. There is an add-on to burn iso images, too. And there is a GUI available.

There are a large number of small, command-line burners out there, too.

What would you require in a burning package?

CDBurnerXP Pro is a Nero clone that is free:

    kenton,
The last version of Nero that I installed I did do a Custom Installation, since that was available on that CD.

Important: is the CDBurnerXP Pro more convenient, more lightweight solution than Nero?

No. It isn't more "convenient ". It is basically a free Nero clone.

XP's burner can burn ISO's with this add-on:

I thought I had a GUI for it, but seem to have lost it. I'll look around.

The simplest burner I've found with multiple functions is CDRecorder. It uses cdrecord.exe and mkisofs.exe and works great with less than 1% CPU in fast mode.

CDrecord.exe itself is a very good CD burner at less than 200k.

Hello, as far as I'm concerened you can't beat NERO. It never ever failed me. Its as easy as any of them. I use version 5.5 but I guess the newest version 6 is best. Good Luck,,Nero

I chosen Nero. What is difference between Nero Suite OEM and Nero retail?
Also, there are Nero Suite 1, 2, 3 What's difference? I not need applications for DVD.

Hello again Kenton, I'm sorry that I did not see the posts above yours
OEM is just as good as Retail except it doesn't come with a big box, and lots of advertisements in that box. Anytime I can get OEM I usually go for it. It's a lot cheaper in the pocket $$$$ and until I marry someone as rich as Oprah I'll be buying OEM ;) Good Luck, I wish I new more about the Freebie Burn software, if it was recommended here it must be good. Nero just is perfect as far as I'm concerened!
