Due to my kids, iTunes is installed on our family computer. I have all of the iTunes startup instructions unchecked in Spybot Tools. AutoPlay for a CD does not initiate. I have to go to the drive on My Computer and doubleclick on it. Then, it opens in iTunes (prefer MS Media Player).

So, I opened up the drive's Properties and specified MS Media Player for both Music Files (confirmed in File Types.. CDA) and Music CD. Still, iTunes opens when when I doubleclick on the drive in My Computer.

    1. How do I get AutoPlay to work again?
    2. How do I get control of which program is the default one for playing CDs?

    Thanks,

    Larry

I went into Media Player and reset its Options to make it the default CD player and that has worked. However, the Autoplay will still not work. Any suggestions?

Still trying to figure this out. From a closed but unresolved thread,

Where does one find Autoplay instructions in File Types and in the Drive Properties??

    Hello Larry,

Try uninstalling iTunes (that might make Windows "reset itself" :p:D). Do some tests then.

You can try reinstalling iTunes again, but follow VERY carefully what areas it is going to take control of.

The last time I went to the Apple support website, they said they don't support installation on Windows.

Well Matt, I was way too cautious to delete iTunes and take any chances with those downloads. So, after going through the many stages of grief over the preceeding months like anger, fear and acceptance, I tried this and that with no benefit (including some registry alterations that are pretty well documented).

On a lark this morning I did another search and quickly found a link to a Microsft AutoPlay repair applet that I had never seen before.... and it worked!! If you find yourself in a similar situation, I hope that this helps you, too!!
