    Running Win XP prof SP2

    Recently upgraded TrendMicro Internet Security
    Recently upgraded memory from (4) 256mb chips to (2) 1gig and (2) 256 mb
    Maybe not related.
    Device manager does not show either; No light or open close on cd;
    DVD shows light and opens but nothing;
    I tried searching for hardware and it shows up briefly; I managed to catch it and look at properties... shows "cannot load the device driver because previous instanse of the driver is still in memory - code 38"
    All cables inside seem to be tight and plugged in correctly.

    Please give me some direction.
    thanks

    kevin - Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

    Seems that your post has been overlooked while I was away :(
    Check the power leads - in fact check all the leads, ribbon cables (again - unplug and reseat) It is so easy to dislodge one when working in the case (memory upgrade). The drive is clearly not getting any power - try another power lead if one is available.

    For the DVD remove the power lead and reboot - shut down, replace the power lead and reboot.

    Post back with findings.
