By accident, I deleted a uninstall entry in the control panel of a game

    The game still works.

When I analyzed Ccleaner it showed Uninstall Reference Issue for the game.

If I click clean, will that remove the game or what will happen?

Also, if I run Ccleaner at startup, that erases office recovery files right

and the settings I select when I open the program MANUALLY will they still be applied when I run it at startup?

In general, removing the uninstall entry only removes information such as the Display Name of the program in the Add/Remove programs list, the path of the uninstaller for the program or the string for uninstalling it, possibly the path through which is was installed, the user that installed it, the path it was installed to, etc. For the most part, it means that should you decide to uninstall the program, you will have to manually use the uninstaller file.

If I run Ccleaner at startup

lets say my computer was not doing well and needed a restart, if I'm working on an office document, will the autorecovery file still be there after running Ccleaner at startup?

Also your saying it is ok to use with the uninstall junk most of it is (0000000000000000-99999999999999999999-55555555555-0000000000) I dont know what the hell that **** stands for, is that ok to remove if it comes up as error

My cds are at home, I at college dont want to ***** with my system, thats why I ask is this safe?????

    My personal opinion....

CCleaner can be customized to be a very gentle and safe way to do some of the tasks one finds themselves doing on occasion. It has the added convenience of being able to do several jobs in one fell swoop that would ordinarily require opening multiple folders, files and programs. On the flipside it also has settings for cleaning that can be quite destructive. Registry cleaning is top most on the dangerous list.

It's uninstall feature can be helpful but should be used only if the other standard ways have failed in someway. Or possibly, as in your case, your afraid an uninstall will fail. If you use the "analyze" button feature first, it will list the files and directories it will remove before actually doing so. This will give you a good idea if the uninstall is worth an attempt. NOTE* We usually recommend, that if your having an uninstall issue you should reinstall the problematic program (your game) and then uninstall it. Point may be mute anyway since you don't even know if there will be an issue yet.

As for the temp cleaning, while the default option that is set by **** cleaner will only delete temp files older than 48 hours. How well ccleaner sticks to this rule or option, I'm unsure. Since word defaults to c\windows\temp for *.asd file (autorecovery files) then it would be deleted if ccleaner is set to run on startup. You can , however set a different location or folder for the asd files from within words options. NOTE* I believe you can check which folder word is using to keep these in also from within words options.

May I strongly suggest that you do not have ccleaner option set to autorun on startup. If you want to run it at startup, do this yourself via the shortcut. Make sure you have only the safest routine things checked for a standard cleanup such as "IE temp ". Leave the more thorough cleaning options unchecked unless needed for pinning down an error or bug issue with system. Even then, picking and choosing these (via check boxes) is needed. Autostartup Temp folder cleanup as a routine is a bad idea anyway. Sometimes information stored in the temp folder is needed and used for various functions at startup. If you've deleted this information via ccleaner, you'll be making more problems for yourself than a clogged temp folder would create.

I use ccleaner myself but not on a routine basis. When I do, it is largely for the "IE Category" and maybe a few other things in like recycle bin, clipboard, MRU lists since I cleaning IE crapola. Less frequently but handy, is the "system Category" with the exceptions of dump and log files and I do practice what I preach and always double checked, via the "analyze button ", first.

Yes, settings wil be retained until you change them. Just remember that when it runs it will run cleanup on the tasks you have left checked when you set them or what ever you have left checked when you exit the program.

To sum up....You sound like you have files you consider absolutely critical. As a college student, I'm sure you probably do. I hope you have invested time researching, setting up, and using good backup and recovery routines.

    Hello again sniper9228,

I recieved and read your PM and your most welcome. It was my pleasure. I hope you don't mind that I answer that PM here. It is board custom to keep all information reguarding the original post within that post so all members can benifit and follow the progress, both good or bad, from the beginning to the end. This post will be archived and someone may choose to use it as a reference in the future when of if finding themselves with the same problem or question.

Your question about where, from within word, you may find the settings for checking on or changing the path (storage for *.asd's) can be found on the toolbar, under which ever heading your "options" will be offered (usually tools>options). I am not being specific because I am unsure if the location would be the same for all versions of office, therefor yours may vary and you will have to hunt and peck. Once found, within that, there should be a tab labeled "file locations ". Autorecovery Files" wil be one among the list and if blank generally, windows\temp will be defaulted to, (again this may vary fron version to version). If not you can check which path\folder is being used. If you wish to change this, you can do so by highlighting the extention and clicking on the "Modify Button ". This will allow you to set a path\folder of your choosing.

Hope the above covers your quest and once again your most welcome. :)
