I have the programs listed above on my desktop computer. Recently I received help on the Forum concerning bringing my Windows 10 up to date. During the course of that adventure, a very courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable member of the forum, suggested I did not really need any of these programs and that if I uninstalled them the Windows Security Program would automatically give me all the protection I need. I would really appreciate some opinions from other members of the forum who are knowledgeable in the field. Does the Windows program offer all the features these programs do and if so, how does one get that program up and operating? Would it be a good idea to keep any of the programs I have listed to go along with the Windows product to make the computer more secure? Any comments will be appreciated!

If you will look at my signature, that is all I use and has been that way for years. Wife's and most of my friends are like I am. Can't remember that last time that we got caught with anything. We do keep them updated.

With the exception of Keyscramber I use exactly the same programs that MrBill uses. I have done this since the release of Windows 10 and the purchase of a new computer with that OS and I have not had one single security problem since that purchase nearly 6 years ago. Prior to that time I still only used FREE security programs going back many years. I used Avira Free for well over 10 years along with the other programs noted by MrBill. Never had one single infection/invasion etc. I can say I am extremely pleased with Windows Defender and all the other programs which I have also used for over 10 years.

Hi jholland, you helped me with a problem a few months back and at the time suggested I get rid of the programs I listed here and use
Windows Defender. In order to do so, do I have to delete/disable the 3 programs I have listed and is there anything I have to do to enable Defender?
ESET warns me from time to time not to go to a site I have entered in the address bar. Malware bytes has Quarantined 2 Registry Sites and a file in April and CCleaner advises me when they scan frequently. I assume Defender is not active as I have never heard anything from them. Do you recommend using the "free programs" the Team Members use in addition to Defender?

Thank you for your response and suggestions! I love the clip art you use in your ID corner. Years ago when clip art software was popular I had an icon of a duck getting ready to use a hammer on his desktop unit-it was colorful and a panic and I got a lot of comments on it.

Hi bsilverfox, If you have ANY Antivirus of any brand installed on your W10 comp - Defender will switch off. This was done by MS in recognition that running more than one Antivirus program may cause many confusing conflicts.
If you disable/uninstall Eset - Defender will automatically switch back on so that your computer is always protected.
Again this was a very necessary operation recognized by MS and is why we are so very satisfied with W10 and Defender.

I have over the years tried a great number of Free AV programs from W95 on.
Like Judy (jholland 1964) I used Avira but like a vast number of users at the time, I got thoroughly brassed off with the "nag" screen that kept appearing in the middle of my work screen wanting me to buy their program.
Along with other members of the Avira Forum, I voted with my feet (as the saying said) and uninstalled it.

When Defender becomes active - it may download Security patches in the background to update the program.
This will not be very noticeable as it is a normal undertaking of the MS OS.

I have for many years been using Firefox as my Browser and an Addon I use WOT (Web of Trust) which advises by use of Traffic light colours which websites are Safe to use.
Greens are Safe, Amber is doubtful and Red is a no go or at your complete risk.
I hope we have been useful for you to set your mind at ease.;)

May I suggest as an additional protection from questionable web sites the add on the Malwarebytes' Browser Guard
"Filters out annoying ads and scams while blocking trackers that spy on you." It is Excellent. I have used it since it was first released. I have it installed on all of my browsers and it is FREE.

Web Of Trust is available for most all other browsers, always has been. You must visit the Web Of Trust website with each browser in order to get it on specific browsers.
