Hi hope that I am in the right place.

I have a problem, I can't use the shift 2 when trying to get an (at)

symbol for a email address, the screen changes, I lose gadgets and

browsers, icons stay. If I use shift 1 the screen returns.
    Anybody have this issue.

    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Service Pack 1

    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 11 Dual-Core M320 2.10 GHz
Installed memory (RAM) 4.00 GB (3.75 GB usable)
    System 64-BIT Operating System

    Regards,

    Ron

It's gotta be something in your keyboard settings which sound like they are set to UK english. CONTROL panel will access keyboard and language options

No - nothing to do with the English setting - see my avatar :)
Control Panel > Region & Language > Keyboards & Languages

However this sounds more like a faulty keyboard - beg, borrow or buy another to try out.

My thought too, unless Ron (or some prankster) has installed a keyboard hook somewhere;)

Ron, we have no idea of your system (this could make a difference), please complete your system details.

    Thanks PetC,WildFire,

My wife has the same, her's works fine and is English-US mine was Eng-Aus
I also tried Eng-UK as well as Eng-US nothing fixed. I have no more

information than the OP I'll try to find out more.
I regularly scan with Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials and

    SuperAntiSpyware, I think it's clean.

If you are both on desktops swap the keyboards around.

    Thanks PetC,
Sorry I didn't mention that the machine is a LapTop, so very limited in swapping.
Also something I didn't say is that shift 3 and shift 4 also remove screen and shift 1 returns it.

I does sound like a keyboard fault, but please clarify what you mean by Shift 3 & Shift 4. I interpreted Shift 1 and Shift 2 as being the 2 shift keys, but 3 & 4 has me baffled :)

Okay if I hold down shift and press 2, I lose screen except for icons and backgrond.
also if I press shift and 3 the same thing happens also with shift 4.
But pressing shift and 1 the screen comes back, the screen being browsers and gadgets.

    Arie,
I have looked over the board no stuck keys, but thanks for the input.

OK - understand now :) General convention would be Shift+2, etc.

You could try disabling the touchpad to see if that is conflicting with the keyboard or uninstalling the keyboard and rebooting to reinstall.

I'd try a new keyboard. Don't know about yours, but my Dell Latitude keyboard is easily removed, and I can get a new one for around $15-$30.

    The ultimate test ....

Connect a USB keyboard to the laptop (beg, borrow or steal one :)) - if that works without issue then you have a faulty keyboard.

    Hi Ron,

It sounds like Arie's suggestion might be your problem.

Here's a link for Ask-Leo and see if it helps.

Well I got the USB keyboard and it didn't work either.
I talked to the dealer where I got it from, his response was to do much as has already been done.
His suggestion was to save the drive and reformat the drive.
What is your suggestion, save, make an image or ghost or else.

    Ron
