    Greetings From Texas

    When my Search page comes up for me to see my options that I want, there is no text showing !. You know, Go to: >START>SEARCH . Everything above the Dog is just blue--no Text!. Now I can't search for files and folders, nothing there to click on. I have tried going back to restore points ,but no luck.. The System Restore didn't restore.-------------------------Donald

    PS: I will be back at my computer
    12:00AM to 3:30AM

    Hi ! Newt !

    Thanks for your reply. Little late getting back. I had many e-mails to open and reply to.------I have CompuServe. I did open explorer, but the task bar remained the same and the problem remains the same.. Is there another way to launch the same exact page from within explorer by passing the CS taskbar?----I have a feeling that this will be a hard one to crack.------------dandydon ---(Donald)

    Hi andronomad !
    Thank you so much for your reply! - I went to your link.It had a download for me to try. I downloaded and installed it and now the dog is gone and thst pane is brown and not the blue.---read the article below. I read it and I could not find that "Change Prferences ". If I can find it may solve it. It said something about a default search companion. Maybe it was I in some way deleted the text and now need to use it again for the default.. Where is that change perferences.-------Donald

    To search in Search Companion

    1. Click Start, and then click Search.

    2. Choose whether to look for:

    * Pictures, music, or video

    * Documents (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)

    * All files and folders

    * Computers or people

    * Information in the Help and Support Center

    * Information on the Internet

    3. Click on the type of search you want.

    Important: If you do not see the headings listed above you have probably changed your default search behavior.

    1. Click Change preferences.

    2. Click Change files and folders search behavior.

    3. Click Standard, and then click OK.

    4. Click on the type of search you want.

    PS: I am tired and it is about 3:45 am. I will mess with it on Sunday late.

    Don

    Don't know whether using Compuserve has any bearing.

    I had exactly same problem as you when one day I tried search facility (I don't use it very often) and text had vanished IE just blue with dog........!!!!

    The MS fix link I suggested worked for me but i think i had to have the XP-Pro CD available to retreive missing/corrupt files......did you have to do this also ?

    It seems the facility stands alone and I cannot find any other way to alter preferences apart from within the search facility itself which of course you have lost.

    Try the following MS link which covers other possible solutions one of which suggests that pressing F3 key can retrieve facility.....cannot possibly be that simple...lol

    http://search.microsoft.com/default...=35&i=36&i=37&i=38&i=39&siteid=us/itresources

    good luck

    dandydon, Even after you get the Windows XP search feature back to normal, it won't be anything to brag on.

    Try this freeware called Agent Ransack. It's absolutely great! I gave up on XP search long ago. The team that came up with that lame dog act ought to be sterilized before they spawn anything worse. :)

    Abraxas put me on to it in This previous thread and I've been very pleased with it ever since.

    Ransack looks rather interesting and quite similar to the little chap (Wilbur) who performs my searches :)
