I am trying to copy a file that is on my desktop to an email account.

there are 3 separate admin accounts on my XP desktop.

I recently changed all my files (or tried to) from one user account to another.

    One user account is
    "User Account A."
The other is "User Account B."

Both user accounts are accessible through c drive > documents and settings.

The file is on the desktop of User Account B

The email account was created when I was using User Account A and before I created User Account B, so it does not seem to be recognizing User Account B. But when I log in to windows and into the email account, I do so through User Account B.

When I attempted to upload the file through the email account, it did not show the file. But when I searched for the file through desktop of User Account A, the file was there.

I then attempted to upload it again, but on the email control panel it showed this:

    C:\fakepath\A721 Lesson X.doc

I could not upload the file to my email account even though it is clearly on the desktop.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi dispatch trophy. What happens when you copy the file from the desktop on User Account A to your My Documents folder in User Account B? Does the file copy over properly and can you open the file from User Account B?

If you can open it from User Account B then I would make sure the file is in your Documents folder on User Account B and then see if you can upload the file from there.

Also what e-mail account are you using?

    thanks for your response.

You remember a couple of weeks ago, I wanted to transfer all the files from the old user account to the new one. That was when all the files were transferred from the desktop which is in "Documents and settings" to the new account. The file I just tried to transfer to the email account was created on the desktop for user account B after I had made this switch. This file was never in user account A.

The email server I am using is INBOX.COM.

This is the location of the file in properties of the file.

    C:\Documents and Settings\user account B\Desktop

Ahh ok. So just to make sure, the file isn't corrupted or anything right? You can open it with no problem?

How are you accessing your e-mail server? Is it through a browser like Firefox or Internet Explorer? Or do you use an e-mail program such as Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook to check your e-mail?

Yes, I can open the file on my "User Account B" desktop.

I just created a second Word file and the same thing happened. The email server says I have uploaded the file, but it cannot be opened after it is in storage in the email account.

I am accessing the email account through the web on Google Chrome.

Cool. Just to rule out a browser problem, try accessing your e-mail account through Internet Explorer and upload the file through that browser and see if the same thing happens. I want to rule out that Google Chrome isn't causing the issue here.

Yes, I just tried that with Mozilla Firefox and the file uploaded and I was able to open it through the email account.

The email account changes the name of the file, however. Wherever there is a space the name in the email upload has %20.

Chrome has some problems, but I use it because it is so much faster than Firefox, or IE.

Good to know. If you experience this problem again you will know in the future to try a different browser to upload a file to your e-mail. I am glad you got this issue resolved.
