When I try to uninstall IE5.5, it is nowhere in Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove programs. I had upgraded to IE 6.0 "“ this had no uninstall option, only a revert to previous version which I did. I do see in the list of add/delete programs: "Microsoft Windows Critical Update Notificationâ€
Do I need to uninstall that update to get back to an uninstallable IE?
Any other ideas what might be wrong?
Would it wreak havoc if I just "delete" the IE5.5 program?
    (I already tried a "repair ").
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Nevermind. I've been to the MS support site and found out that installing the IE6 upgade was a HUGE mistake, which erased the files necessary to uninstall EITHER version. Their solution is to uninstall WINDOWS and then reinstall both Windows and IE !!! I will instead live with the corrupted files in IE until I get a new PC, perhaps one w/ a Linux OS.

Try this! Then you can download whichever copy of IE you like. :)

Thanks much for pointing me to IEradicator -- what a great utility for getting rid of IE. Unfortunately the Forms autocomplete file I am trying to get at must be in the shell files left on the PC because they are STILL there and I still cannot clear or delete them. I see on the IEradicator site that a soon to be released version will remove every qwark associated w/ IE so I will wait for that & remove IE again.
    THANKS!
