Can't turn off computer

    When I press
    Start
    Turn off computer
    Restart or Turn off or Standby

    The system hangs with a message like
    PREPARING TO STANDBY

    I have left it at that point all night but it never changes
    I have to do a power-off to get out of the message.

    Yes, I have updated to SP2 and I have Nero Burning ROM 6 loaded (But I have not used it)

    I DO NOT KNOW how to change Power Management or the BIOS

    Did you check your Power Management to be sure that you have unselected Standby? Right click desktop in blue area and hit tab screensaver, then choose power management button.
    Also, go into BIOS on startup and check power management there to be sure that Standby is not selected.
