Hi All, .............. After reinstalling the most recent TB I have a problem sending e-mails. I don't think the reinstall is at fault since my outgoing server settings are as they used to be.
I'll try displaying the significant parts for yo;u to see.

    OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP) SETTINGS

    Comcast - smtp.comcast.net (Default)

    Description: Comcast
    Server Name: smtp.comcast.net
    Port: 587
    User Name: xxxxxxx@comcast.net
    Auth. Method: No authentication
    Conn. Security SSL/TLS

What happens when I try to send an e-mail is that the blue marks continue to move across and then a message of sending failure. I have checked the contents of the Outgoing Server section many times and can see nothing wrong. Can anyone provide any help?

There will be an exact error message when sending fails. This message is generated by the Comcast smtp server and sent back to Thunderbird. What does the error message state? (it will contain a numerical code too)

    example:
    530 - not authorized

TonyT, Thank you or your quick reply. In setting up my TB I used the Comcast published recommended value of 587 for the "Outgoing Mail Server - Port Number." In a later telephone conversation with a Comcast tech, she suggested that I try 465. That solved the problem. Now, as usual, I can't find the procedure to mark this post Resolved.
