    Hi pals

I have a very simple .exe file created in vb6 that runs ok in win7.32.bit or 64.bit (home premium) as long as i log in with administrator rights. However when i lock in the same PC as normal user, it ask for admin'r user & password to run.

How can i allow User to run this .exe file without involving admin'r rights.

Try putting the exe in the User's directory. I believe if put anywhere else Win7 will flag it as needing admin rights. I ran into this with a cmd pgm I made.

Thanks Tony, will give it a try and revert.

PS Place the .exe file in User's desktop & User's My Documents, same response requring Admin'r right.

On further tinkering, all other .exe file don't have this problem. This particularly .exe has nothing special. It is used Filesystem obj but another .exe also use that but it has no such issue.
    So I am totally foxed.

If it is calling to a non-user space that would be the problem.

    Thanks Arie

What i found is when i recreate the VB6.SP6 .exe taking all the old codes (very simple lines) & using a previously working form that don't give problem, the new .exe do not require admin'r right no matter where or how i place it in the Std User environment. So the problem is fixed but WHY??

    I wouldn't know. You'd have to check out VB6 forums/information.

There is some bug in all this access code as W7 will intermittently and spuriously require Admin permission to rename/delete files. For example, I placed a set of jpg files in a directory and when I wanted to delete them the first few deleted without problem and it then suddenly started telling me that I needed admin permission. This sort of thing happens from time to time and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Just for the records, the new .exe file never repeat the problem anymore.
