Windows Vista can't remove program icon in add/remove control panal

I'm at my wits end, I needed to remove a old program to replace it with a new version. the add/remove did not give me the uninstall option, so I erased the program manually, but new version still tells me that theirs a prior version and won't load. So how can I get rid of the icon in control panal?

Is it just the Icon or the entire Control Panel entry. Did you try reinstalling the program and then uninstalling it again? Are you familiar with working in the registry?

 

It's just the icon. I did go into the 'regedit' and removed the program. It's a online update, don't think I can reinstall the previous version.

Did you navigate this path in the registry.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

 

What was the name of the program?
